With the big three Halloween themed raves hitting So Cal in a little over a month, line ups have already been released for Hard Haunted Mansion and Insomniac’s Escape From Wonderland. The question now should be, who will Monster Massive add to their line up. Lets start by taking a look at some of the big names the other two events have locked in so far.
Hard Haunted Mansion
Fatboy Slim/Rusko/Soulwak/Skrillex/Laidback Luke/Major Lazer/Skream & Benga + more…
Escape From Wonderland
Afrojack/ATB/Benny Benassi/Dash Berlin/Markus Schulz/Pendulum/Steve Angello
If I had to take a pick just a little over a month out I would bet on seeing at least one, if not all three of the following at Monster:
Ferry Corsten/Gareth Emery/Sander van Doorn
Who do you think will be taking the stage along side Armin?
On Friday October 7th Star Slinger (Born Darren Williams) will bring his soul and shoegaze inspired hip hop to the Troubadour. Star Slinger released the album Volume 1 in 2010 which includes the single “Mornin”. Supporting this show is Ghostly International artists Mux Mool and Shigeto. I feel that Mux Mool will take over this show and win over many new fans with his electronic/trip hop set. If you are just getting into these genres of music this would definitely be a great first show for you to attend.
Star Slinger, Mux Mool and Shigeto
10/7 – 8pm
$12 tickets available here
9081 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood
Star Slinger – Mornin’
Mux Mool – Get Better John
The dates have been announced, the tickets sold out. Alt-rock band Brand New will be taking the stage at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco on September 10th. Since he was just a young lad it has always been this little boys dream to see Jesse Lacey and his boys bring a packed ballroom to tears. This might be my one and only chance to witness such a raw display of songwriting. Please send all good vibes this way in order to make this happen. I hope to be singing along with all of you come the evening of Sep 10th.
After hearing for months about the dreaded (OMG!) Carmageddon that is currently taking place in LA, there was finally something interesting to come out of it. A few days ago JetBlue announced $4 flights today from Burbank to Long Beach. Discussions began that a novice cyclist could beat a plane that distance. Well yesterday it was announced that local cycling group Wolfpack Hustle would take this challenge and Flight Vs. Bike was born!! The rules to the event are as follows:
Cyclists will depart from a residence near the intersection of Cahuenga and Chandler Blvd. in North Hollywood at 10:55 AM PT (Saturday, July 16) Flight Departs 12:20pm and we’re basing the cyclists’ departure time on the airline’s recommended passenger arrival time of 1.50 hours before departure. (we’re doing a little less to be fair)Cyclists will be required to follow all traffic laws. The finish line is the light house at the Shoreline Aquatic Park in Long Beach (adjacent to Acquarium of the Pacific)Ezra and I will take a cab from LGB to the finish line courtesy of GaryRidesBikes FIRST TO ARRIVE AT THE LIGHT HOUSE WINS!
As of about ten minutes ago Wolfpack Hustle had reached the lighthouse and the plane was just about to take off. A win for cyclists all over LA!

Hailing from Brighton, England; The Kooks have begun their ascent upon the masses in North America. Formed in 2005, Luke Pritchard (vocals/guitar), Hugh Harris (guitar), Max Rafferty (formerly bass), Dan Logan(bass), and Paul Garred (drums) make up the catchy pop/rock band The Kooks. Their influences include The Police and The Strokes, both of which are evident in their music. The track “You Don’t Love Me” off of the album Inside In/Inside Out was their first Top 20 hit on the U.K. singles chart. Subsequent songs to chart high include “Always Where I Need To Be” and “Do You Wanna” off of the 2008 album Konk. The Kooks are currently gearing up to release their third album Junk of the Heart this September on Virgin Records. Too bad we just missed them playing the Troubadour a few weeks ago!
If you are into raving and into Halloween then you for sure have to know about Monster Massive, the self proclaimed “biggest Halloween dance festival in the United States”. It would also be pretty safe to assume that you have also heard of Hard Haunted Mansion, the “other” big Halloween dance festival in LA. Well this year your Halloween raving plans are sure to be thrown for a loop with Insomniac Events announcement of Escape From Wonderland. This festival will go head to head on Saturday, October 29th against Monster and Hard. So just to reiterate, THREE Halloween themed raves in the LA area all taking place on the same night. This shit is going to be bananas. Insomniac has yet to reveal the location of Escape From Wonderland, but all signs should point to the NOS in San Bernardino. The NOS has been home to their other events, Beyond Wonderland and Nocturnal Wonderland and would sure be inviting to this new event. It will be a very interesting next few months waiting to see who gets rumored and confirmed for these three events. Insomniac should pull Daft Punk and the other two events will be a ghost town.
